1.Top 10 reasons why a US-based company might want to expand operations to Barcelona!

1) The amazing location: Barcelona is the center of an emerging economic Eurozone, also linking connections to Latin America making trade, buying, and selling accommodating.

2) Connections: Barcelona has a high speed train station, international airport, motorways that connect to the European network, and logistic areas in the southern continent. This allows many opportunities for growth and expansion. Also all of the accessibility makes it easier for people to get around easily.

3) Economic advantages: Barcelona is growing economically and has become the leading force in new advance services and economic enterprises.

4) Booming foreign investment: 95% of 5,000 of foreign companies in Catalonia, Spain are in the Barcelona area. These companies consist of Japan, Italy, North America, France, Austria and Swiss. Again which shows proof of expansion and a healthy business partnership between different cultures and countries.

5) New & improved strategies: New strategies and economic growth is constantly arising in Barcelona, which would make it a place of desire because the more production and innovation will lead to a great revenue.

6) Growing education: Barcelona has amazing education statistics, with there being 8 public and private universities (which hold a great deal of academic weight in the world) and and two of the best business schools in the world, ESADE and IESE. 48% of the cities workforce is required to go through these knowledgable services, creating an educated workplace with unlimited talent from its workers.

7) City Works: Barcelona is constantly emerging and growing with the times. New city inventions and strategic plans deal with, "logistics, internationalisation, accessibility, technological development, creativity, design and research". These would all be perks of doing work in Barcelona because new city works create and increase jobs, production, and revenue.

8) A place for entrepreneurs: If you are an entrepreneur looking to spread yourself out of the country Barcelona may just be the place to do so! They have deal with commerce and enterprise sectors and are willing to make the connection with other companies, which helps to created business and relationships.

9) Life's Standards: Work life in Barcelona is one worth living. Being one of the best european cities with great opportunities with its workers. Statistics show that one is usually with a company for 14 years. This is great because it allows loyal employees in the company, shows that employees enjoy the work and will do anything to do it and get task done, which in the end will produce more product, creating a great space for the company.

10) Pro- Barcelona: Barcelona is a well known and desirable place when it comes to business and tourists. This makes it a constant attraction which will always keep the business alive and well.

2. Why might a US-based company hesitate to invest in Barcelona?

  • In contrast to the above question, there are also some reasons as to why a company may not want to invest in work in Barcelona. For starters work permits and travel arrangements may make it hard to be present and involved in certain tasks because you are a great distance away. There is also the thought of currency exchange, Barcelona uses Euros, as a result, investors from the U.S. must convert these currencies into U.S. dollars or vice versa. This can become a problem because if the currency is constantly fluctuation it can or may lead to unexpected gains or losses.

3. In the form of a one-page executive summary, make a detailed business case for or against expanding to Barcelona. Support your case with available facts and data.

  • Chick- Fil-a a company that provides quality and great tasting food from its restaurants throughout the U.S has not yet expanded to Barcelona.

  • As the manager of international operations of Chick- Fil-A I am adamant on the idea of expanding our company to the next level, specifically with food locations in Barcelona, Spain. Our company has a strong presence in the United States and I believe it to be time for expansion.

Barcelona is place with rising economy advances in the food industry. To start Barcelona is diverse location geographically and economically, which would attract many people and revenue to a store located in this area. Studies show that the foodstuff and beverages industry is the principal business sector in terms of turnover with 17.9% of the total in the Barcelona metropolitan area. Barcelona is also the hub for tourists, making another supportive reason as to why I stand by this expansion. For example, more statistics show that there has been 8.2 million international travelers/tourists going to Barcelona in the last year. I feel that with the proper location our company can strive with the locals and tourists as they see some familiar food when coming to Spain. Lastly, I believe that the food industry in Barcelona match those of this company. For example, our own founder, S. Truett Cathy stated, “Food is essential to life; therefore make it good” and in an article based on expansion into Barcelona affirms, “The foodstuff industry is strengthened by a food culture based on quality and health, and this has had the knock on effect of creating a wide range of stalls in municipal markets, and especially those in the Barcelona area”, this showing the coexistence of our views with both quality and service to our consumers. If we were to expand our service to Barcelona I have nothing but high hopes for prosperous revenue, positive feedback from customers, and a great deal of service.
